Kathmandu, March 13: Nepal has been elected Chair of the WTO Committee on Trade and Environment (CTE).
Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in Geneva, Ram Prasad Subedi, was unanimously elected for a one-year term at the General Council meeting held in Geneva on 11 March 2026, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The CTE is a standing forum for dialogue among WTO members on the impact of trade policies on the environment and the impact of environmental policies on trade.
It also facilitates discussions to promote environmentally sustainable trade and climate-related trade measures.
This leadership role comes at a crucial time, as Nepal is preparing to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status and is working closely with all WTO members to further integrate its trade into global markets. (RSS)
