By TRN Online, Kathmandu, March 5: Voting is ongoing at all polling centers across the country for the House of Representatives election (HoR).
According to the Election Commission, a total of 1,823,824 votes had been cast nationwide by 11:00 AM, which is about 10 percent of the total votes.
Voting began at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday and will continue until 5:00 p.m. Voters who enter the polling station premises within the designated time set by the Commission will be allowed to vote.
Under the first-past-the-post (direct) electoral system, 65 political parties are competing with 61 election symbols. In the direct election category, 3,406 candidates are contesting, including 3,017 men, 388 women, and 1 from the other category.
Under the proportional representation system, 3,135 candidates are competing, including 1,363 men and 1,772 women. Elections are being held for 165 constituencies under the direct system and 110 seats under the proportional representation system.
A total of 18,903,689 voters across the country are participating in the election, including 9,663,358 men, 9,240,131 women, and 200 others. For this purpose, 23,112 polling centers have been set up at 10,967 polling locations. Around 150,000 voters will participate in voting under the proportional representation system at 143 temporary polling centers.
For election security, 79,727 personnel from the Nepali Army, 75,797 from Nepal Police, 34,567 from the Armed Police Force, 1,921 from the National Investigation Department, and 149,090 election police have been deployed.
