Kathmandu, Feb 22: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has urged the citizens to cast votes confidently, as the government ensures adequate security for the upcoming election to the House of the Representatives scheduled for March 5.

Talking to Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Home Minister Aryal said, "The main priority of the government is to hold the election on the slated date. We have reinforced security for impartial election and request all to cast their votes in a peaceful manner and without any doubt."

Activities are underway through command post centre related to election and election cells have been mobilized through the mechanism envisioned by integrated security plan. The mechanism analyzes daily situation, necessity and challenges, he shared.

Responding to a query, the Home Minister mentioned that some incidents occurred in recent period would not make any impact on the election, as the administration has been handling carefully. He clarified that inmates fled during Gen Z movement and the looted weapons were no longer a security threat. Most of the fled inmates had already returned to jails and looted weapons recovered, according to the Home Minister.

He argued no one should avoid the election as the constitution has provision to hold election within six months after dissolution of the parliament, adding the incumbent government has been carrying out activities keeping the election in first priority.

"We took the responsibility of holding fair election and handing over power to the elected government through democratic process. So, there is no chance of postponing the election," opined the Home Minister. He further said, "We have completed all preparations required for holding election in a fair and peaceful environment. There are not many days left for the election. Therefore, no one should doubt it

The state's mechanism would discourage the tendency of making statement against election, Minister Aryal argued, stating the government would move ahead with people's support and cooperation.

"This government was formed to fulfill the constitutional vacuum and to fully restore the constitutional system. A unique situation created this government," he explained, adding that the Cabinet members had taken oath of protecting and acting in line with the constitution.

He further reiterated government does not budge from its stand and responsibility of holding the HoR election on the scheduled March 5. Our intention and honesty lies in successful conduct of HoR election, Home Minister Aryal added. The Minister informed that citizen can cast votes confidently. The government is working as a coordinator for all State agencies to make the election successful.

In addition to its concentration in election, other priorities are restoration of rule of law and good governance, and prompt and smooth service delivery.

He sought cooperation from all sides to hand over power to the forthcoming democratic government. Minister Aryal also reminded that present atmosphere resulted after political consensus to give exit to the vacuum following the Gen Z movement.

Aryal believed the election would give an opportunity for citizens to select right persons and consolidate democratic system. "We urge all citizens to exercise their rights confidently," he said.
