'Media vital to make election successful'

Kathmandu, Feb 22: Secretary at Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Laxmi Kumari Basnet, has said media should play a vital role in making the House of Representatives election successful.     

"It is media's duty to sort through the information and serve right and credible information and news to the people. Spreading false information is against code of conduct," she reminded during an 'orientation on election news' organized by the Gorkhapatra Corporation on Sunday. The Secretary also viewed voters should be inspired to exercise their constitutional rights to elect representatives.     

Spokesperson at Election Commission, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, said it is urgent to focus attention on how voters could be informed correctly. Women's participation in voters' education is imperative, he stressed.     

Chairman of the Gorkhapatra Corporation, Govind Prasad Bhandari, was of the view that media could act as a bridge between political parties and citizens during election.(RSS)
