By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb 17: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the contribution of the Sherpa community in enhancing the pride, honor, and prestige of Nepal and its people is remarkable.

Addressing a best wishes exchange program organized by the Nepal Sherpa Association on the occasion of the 2153rd Gyalpo Lhosar of 2026 (Me-Fo Ta-Lho), on Tuesday, President Paudel said that the Sherpa community’s contributions are a matter of pride.

He noted that the Sherpa community, which originated in the Himalayan region, has now spread across the world and has successfully introduced Nepal globally.

The Sherpas, who have earned worldwide recognition in tourism and mountaineering, are known as an honest, hardworking, and nature-loving community.

Praising the Sherpa community’s unique identity, culture, and national contributions, he said that Nepal’s true indigenous identity lies in its diverse ethnic groups, languages, cultures, lifestyles, traditions, and festivals.

He stated that among Nepal’s various ethnic communities living across the Himalayas, hills, and Terai—regions rich in geographical and cultural diversity—the Sherpa community, with its distinct traditions, culture, civilization, and identity, is an important Indigenous community of Nepal.

The President added that festivals like Lhosar play a significant role in promoting mutual harmony, unity, friendship, and brotherhood. Preserving Nepal’s original identity while strengthening the spirit of national unity is a shared responsibility of all.

He said, “Nepal, with its unique geographical and cultural diversity across the Himalayas, hills, and Terai, is home to various ethnic communities. Among them, the Sherpa community, with its distinct traditions, culture, civilization, and identity, is an Indigenous community of Nepal. This community has made significant contributions to enhancing the pride, honor, and prestige of Nepal and its people. Our true indigenous identity lies in our diverse ethnicities, languages, cultures, lifestyles, traditions, and festivals."
