By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb 5: The Advertising Board has appealed to candidates to avoid publishing or broadcasting misleading advertisements during campaigning for the fourth coming House of Representatives election.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the Board informed that it has been taking complaints about the activities on social media along with other platforms that directly or indirectly humiliate political parties, their candidates, leaders or activists, and that deliberately creating confusion among voters.
The Board stated that it has been continuously monitoring and regulating election-related advertisements after reaching an agreement with the Election Commission to oversee, regulate, investigate, and act on advertisements during the election period.
The statement said, “As the regulatory authority of the advertising sector, the Advertising Board closely examines practices that mislead voters through defamatory and deceptive audio and audiovisual materials.”
The Board also warned that it will take legal action in accordance with the Advertising (Regulation) Act, 2019; the Advertising Rules, 2020; the Election Code of Conduct, 2025; and the Code of Conduct on the Production, Distribution, Publication, and Broadcast of Advertisements, 2022, if it finds any activity that violates these legal provisions.
