Indo-Nepal T-20 championship: Assam wins opening match

Jhapa, Feb 4: The first-ever international level Koshi Pathibhara Indo-Nepal T-20 cricket tournament, hosted by Bhadrapur Cricket Club, has kicked off today.     

In the opening match held at the Mechi Multiple Campus Cricket Stadium in Bhadrapur-8, the Rhino Land Cricket Academy Assam of India has emerged winner. Assam defeated GHCA Kathmandu by 42 runs.     

Put to bat first, Assam gathered 96 runs at 18.1 overs. In response, Kathmandu was confined to 54 runs at 16.2 overs. With this win, Assam secured crucial three points from the opening match.     

Delivering his inaugural speech, Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki expressed the province government's commitment to advance the sports sector and also pledged to spur public investment for further developing the Mechi campus cricket ground.     

Bhadrapur Cricket Club Chairperson Aditya Parajuli presided over the inaugural programme.     

The winner of the tournament will receive cash prize of Rs 500,000 along with a shield while first-runner-up will get Rs 300,000 in cash and a shield, Club's General Secretary Basanta Pokharel informed.     

In the championship, host Bhadrapur Cricket Club along with Kathmandu, Sudurpaschim and Gandaki are participating from Nepal while Delhi, Lucknow, Assam and Sikkim are in fray from Indian side, Parajuli informed.(RSS)
