Barsha Raut to make Hindi film debut

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 13: Actress Barsha Raut is set to make her debut in a Hindi film. According to a source, she recently signed a contract in Kathmandu to play the lead role in the Hindi feature film Rimjhim Gire Sawan.

The film is a social drama set in the scenic yet remote mountainous region of Lachung in North Sikkim. Based in a Nepali community, the story follows the painful and courageous struggle of a married woman and mother of one who has been sentenced to death. Raut will portray the character of Rimjhim Chhetri. Director Arnab Pal said the film depicts a woman’s emotional and brave fight for justice and dignity against systemic corruption.

The film is directed by Bengali filmmaker Arnab Pal.

The cast includes prominent Bollywood actors Subrat Dutta, Rajesh Sharma, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Yashpal Sharma. Actress Susmita Basu from Kolkata will play Rimjhim’s sister, Runjhun. The role of ‘Sawan’ is yet to be finalised, and the production team is searching for a well-known Bollywood actor.

Expressing her excitement, Barsha said, “I have found a role I was looking for, one that challenges my acting ability. Shooting in snow-covered, difficult terrain will be challenging, but it is a great opportunity to learn and grow. Working with a team that has earned recognition in India and alongside Bollywood actors is a matter of pride for me.”

The screenplay is written by veteran writer and lyricist Rakesh Kumar Tripathi, who has been active since 2002 and has written over 700 songs and 15 television series. His upcoming film Tum Rahe Na Tum will be released in 2026.

The technical team includes Indian National Award-winning cinematographer Asim Bose, editor Arghya Kamal Mitra, and art director Atanu Saha. 

Nang Any Gogoi is serving as line producer and costume designer. From Nepal, Ramgopal Timalsina and Nripesh Rupakheti are working as production managers.
