Police recover five guns in Myagdi

BY THAKUR PRASAD ACHARYA,Myagdi, Jan. 9: Police have recovered five muzzle-loading guns that were hidden in the Chiuribot forest of Malika Rural Municipality-4 in Myagdi district.

According to Police Inspector and Information Officer at the District Police Office, Myagdi, Sagar Timilsina, a police team deployed from the Darbang Area Police Office seized the firearms on Wednesday evening. He said the team was mobilised after receiving information about weapons being hidden in the forest.

The recovered guns were documented through a seizure memo and brought to the Darbang Area Police Office for further investigation, Timilsina added.

Earlier, during an illegal arms search operation, the District Police Office, Myagdi, had confiscated 115 unlicensed muzzle-loading guns from various locations across the district. The police have issued a public notice urging people to provide information about illegally concealed weapons.

The illegal arms collection drive has been launched to curb wildlife poaching, maintain peace and security, control unlawful activities, keeping in view of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. 

According to the District Police Office, a total of 121 muzzle-loading guns have been seized so far during the campaign. Police said the weapons were found hidden in abandoned houses, sheds, and forests during search operations.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Thapa of the District Police Office, Myagdi, said the search for illegal weapons was being carried out as a focused campaign in view of the upcoming election.
