President greets Gurungs on Tamu Lhosar festival

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 30: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his greetings to the Gurung community and all Nepali citizens on the auspicious occasion of Tamu Lhosar. 

In a message issued on Tuesday, the President offered his best wishes for happiness, peace, and good health to those residing in Nepal and abroad. He noted that the festival, which marks the beginning of the Gurung New Year, is celebrated with immense joy and cultural pride, particularly in the Himalayan and high hilly regions where the community has a significant presence.

The President emphasised the vital role that Tamu Lhosar plays in the preservation and promotion of Nepal’s unique historical and social traditions. He expressed his belief that such festivities serve as a catalyst for social unity and reconciliation, while simultaneously acting as a platform for tourism promotion. 

By highlighting the ancient calendar system and the traditional lifestyle of the Gurung people, the President framed the festival as an essential thread in the country’s multi-ethnic and multicultural fabric.

Meanwhile, Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has extended his greetings to the indigenous Tamu community on the auspicious occasion of Tamu Lhosar. 

In his message,  the Vice President offered wishes for peace, prosperity, and good health to all Nepalis residing both within the country and across the diaspora.

Observing the tradition of bidding farewell to the traditional old year,  the festival serves as a vital celebration of the unique cultural identity and heritage of the Gurung people. 

The Vice President noted that the gathering of families and relatives during these festivities significantly strengthens the bonds of brotherhood, reconciliation, and social harmony within the nation.

The Vice President Yadav urged citizens to embrace the New Year with positive thinking and renewed enthusiasm.
