CIAA files case against CAAN official Munakarmi

BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Dec. 17: he Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a charge sheet against Binesh Munakarmi, a senior official of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), accusing him of amassing illegal wealth through abuse of office, at the Special Court on Tuesday.

Munakarmi, currently serving as Chief of the Pokhara Regional International Airport Project Implementation Unit, is accused of acquiring assets in access to his known sources of income while holding public office. 

According to the CIAA, during his service period from February 13, 1998, to November 30, 2023, Munakarmi and his immediate family earned a total lawful income of Rs. 37.38 million from salaries, property sales, shares, loans, insurance returns, allowances, bonuses, and interest. 

However, his verified expenditure during the same period amounted to Rs. 62.41 million, including investments in land, house construction, shares, vehicles, gold jewellery, insurance, business ventures, bank deposits, and foreign currency holdings.

The expenditure exceeded income by Rs. 25.03 million, for which no legitimate source could be established. The CIAA demanded a fine of Rs. 25.03 from Munakarmi and him to be punished in accordance with the prevailing laws.
