blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 14: Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) has partnered with Swisscontact to launch a new training and certification programme aimed at improving the teaching skills of instructors in Nepal’s technical and vocational education sector.

The two organisations signed a grant agreement on Friday under the Quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Youth Project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) and supported by Swisscontact.

The initiative seeks to respond to Nepal’s long-standing shortage of qualified TVET instructors by helping both new and experienced teachers strengthen their pedagogical skills. Officials involved in the project say better-trained instructors will

lead to higher-quality vocational education and help young people gain skills that match the needs of the labour market.

As part of the programme, instructors will be able to pursue recognised academic qualifications, including a Master’s in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (MTVET) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Technical and Vocational Instruction (PGDTVI).

The training will be open to teachers from a wide range of fields, including engineering, agriculture, health, hospitality and the humanities. Courses will follow a blended learning approach, combining online lessons with in-person sessions, and will be delivered in close collaboration with the Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI) and industry partners.

The programme also places strong emphasis on recognising prior learning. Participants will receive micro-credentials and credit transfers for existing skills and training gained from recognised institutions, particularly TITI.

KUSOED said the programme is scheduled to be officially launched in February 2026.
