BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Dec. 14: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that he stands as a meeting point between the senior and younger generations within the party.
Koirala stated that, although he had long been raising the issue, both within the party and in external forums, of integrating the younger generation into the mainstream of the state, the lack of attention to these concerns had led to the current situation. He also recalled that since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he had been advocating for 20 per cent representation for youth at the federal level, 30 per cent at the provincial level, and 40 per cent at the local level.
During an interaction with office-bearers and central committee members of the Democratic Fighters Association at his contact office in Bishalnagar on Saturday, Koirala said that the contribution made by democratic fighters to Nepal’s democratic movement would always be highly valued.
Stating that both the country and the party are standing at an extremely difficult juncture, he clarified that the Nepali Congress still needs the support of the Democratic Fighters’ experience for the party reconstruction.
“The party built through the blood and sweat of hundreds of fighters and young people has now faced ideological deviation,” he said, “There is also a need to rebuild values, principles, and integrity within the party.”
Koirala instructed fighters who had come from various districts to actively engage in the party’s upcoming general convention and the general elections.
