By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 10 : President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali sisters and brothers, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of the 77th International Human Rights Day.
This year, International Human Rights Day is being celebrated under the theme “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials.” Human Rights Day is observed worldwide on December 10, emphasising that human rights are the foundation for humans to live with dignity.
Human rights are a birthright. The Constitution of Nepal has contributed to strengthening freedom, equality, and justice by incorporating the principles mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Issuing a statement of Office of the President on the occasion, President Paudel said, “Our country, as a party to various international human rights treaties, has always been committed to and sensitive about its obligations to respect, protect, promote, and fulfill human rights.”
President Paudel expressed belief that Human Rights Day will gain greater significance if the federal government, provincial governments, local authorities, social associations, organizations, media, and the private sector actively take steps to ensure that vulnerable and at-risk groups can fully realize their rights, freedoms, and access to justice.
The entire Nepali population, as well as the international community, is observing with special interest the political situation that has developed in the country following the youth movement.
A coordinated and positive role is required from the government, political parties, civil society, youth activists, and ordinary citizens to stabilize the current situation in the country.
The President deemed that everyone will support the strengthening of the democratic system by ensuring that the upcoming House of Representatives elections on March 5 are conducted in a human-rights-friendly manner.
