Patan (Lalitpur), Nov 24: Gokarneswor Municipality in Kathmandu has laid emphasis on transforming the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training System implementation lab (iLab) into formal education.
The municipality is set to provide three-month short-term training on maintenance of electric vehicles (EV) as part of the iLab under the TVET programme being implemented in collaboration between the Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) and ETH Zurich, with technical support from the Swiss Development Corporation.
Mayor of Gokarneswor Municipality Deepak Kumar Risal said the municipality is planning to impart the training realizing the need to produce skilled human resource for the maintenance of electric vehicles, as the use of electric vehicle has gradually increased.
"Our local youths are facing the problem of unemployment. We can make them self-employed and entrepreneurs by providing training and skills", he added.
Under the iLab-2025 coordinated by the Kathmandu University (KU), there are groups in all provinces except Madhes province for its implementation.
The groups are carrying out technical and vocational programmes in different sector as part of ILab.
Former Dean of KUSOED Prof Dr Mahesh Nath Parajuli informed that Gokarneswor municipality has charted out a plan of action in a way transform the informal technical, vocational education and training into formal educational programme. (RSS)
