Nepal's participation in COP-30 effective: Minister Dr Pariyar

Kathmandu, Nov 18: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr Madan Pariyar, has informed that Nepal's participation in the UN climate conference, COP-30, was effective.     

The 30th edition of Conference of Parties under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is undergoing in Belem, Brazil this time.     

Minister Dr Pariyar, who is leading the Nepali delegation to the COP-30, informed that Nepal was putting forth its agenda effectively in various sessions held as part of the annual climate event. At a virtual press meet organized by Ministry of Forest and Environment from Brazil, Minister Dr Pariyar, on Tuesday, informed, "Although the delegation is small in size this year, we've realized that we've been successful to raise Nepal's climate related agenda effectively."     

In his address to the ministry-level session under the COP-30 on Sunday, Minister Dr Pariyar reminded the developed countries to meet the commitments, especially on climate finance, they made in the past. He underlined that need of constructive roles from all sides including the emerging economies to retain the hope of limiting 1.5 degree temperature rise.     

The Minister had also reminded the Sagarmatha Sambad held in Kathmandu and focus on including the mountain agenda in the UNFCCC process.     

Similarly, chief of climate change management division at Environment Ministry, Joint Secretary, Dr Maheshwor Dhakal, informed media about Nepal's ongoing initiations and participation in the climate events.     

Climate finance, Article 6 of Paris Agreement, loss and damage fund, adaptation and mitigation, technology transfer and climate justice are major agenda Nepal has been pressing for.     

Minister Dr Pariyar is returning home on Wednesday.(RSS)
