Kathmandu, Nov 14: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday had a meeting with Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal to discuss preparations for the upcoming National Assembly election on January 25, 2026, and the House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026.
During the meeting, Home Minister Aryal assured that the government would provide all necessary resources for the elections while ensuring peace and security. He also added that as the government seeks to increase the youth participation in the meeting, an amendment to the Voter List Act, 2073, through an ordinance, had extended the voter registration deadline. The government has supported the EC to ensure integration between the voter registration system and the National Identity Management Information System.
Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said the EC had been preparing for the elections in a systematic and planned way since its announcement. He thanked the government for its support so far, adding that the government roles would be crucial in creating a favourable electoral environment, managing resources, ensuring security, and facilitating the successful conduct of the elections.(RSS)
