Tamghas, Nov 6: Recent unseasonal rainfall in Gulmi district has caused substantial damage to rice cultivation, with losses estimated at approximately Rs 50 million.
The district had cultivated paddy on 7,988 hectares, with an expected yield of 22,909 metric tonnes prior to the rainfall.
Data provided by the Agriculture Knowledge Centre shows that 1,260 metric tonnes of paddy were damaged. When the damage is assessed at the government’s established support price, the loss amounts to around Rs 50 million, said the Centre’s Information Officer, Tikaram Neupane.
The most affected area is the Chaurasi plain, where 40 percent of the 999 hectares of cultivated land has been damaged.
Farmers in the area lamented that the unseasonal rains have caused them major losses this year. (RSS)
