Online service launched for vehicle owners seeking new documents

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 14: Vehicle owners whose documents were burned during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9 no longer need to visit traffic police offices to apply for replacements.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Ramshahpath, on Monday, a new online system has been launched to help the public reapply for vehicle-related documents that were destroyed in the fire during the demonstrations.

Important government records, including driving licenses, blue books, registration books, fine details, and other vehicle-related documents, were destroyed when parts of the Traffic Police Office caught fire during the protests.

Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson for the Traffic Police Office, Naresh Raj Subedi, said that applicants can now fill out the required form by clicking on the ‘If documents are lost’ section available on the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office’s official website.

Once the form is submitted, an application number is generated. Applicants can then use the ‘Check Application’ option to obtain a recommendation letter with a QR code.

“With the QR-coded recommendation letter, service seekers can visit the respective Transport Office,” SP Subedi said, adding that the online process will save time for applicants and reduce the workload at traffic police offices.

He further explained that if someone’s documents were burned, they can still operate their vehicles temporarily using the 24-hour slip or recommendation letter previously issued by the traffic police.

“Even without a driving license, if there is a 24-hour slip or any proof previously issued by the traffic police, vehicle operation will be allowed based on that document,” Subedi added.
