By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 7: Life in the Kathmandu Valley, which had been disrupted for several days due to continuous rainfall and adverse weather conditions, has gradually returned to normal as the rain subsided on Sunday.
Roads, transportation, businesses, and the daily routines of residents are slowly resuming normal operations.
Continuous rainfall in the Valley had severely affected public life, waterlogging from main roads to narrow alleys, increased traffic congestion, and difficulties for pedestrians were reported. With the improvement in weather since Sunday morning, traffic flow has increased, and public movement in the city has become lively again.
Although the continuous rain since Friday had disrupted Kathmandu’s road network for several days, all major roads are now operational, according to Naresh Raj Subedi, Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police (SP) at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, on Monday.
He said, “The rainfall since Friday had made daily life somewhat difficult. However, with the improvement in weather from Sunday, traffic pressure has returned to normal.” Entry and exit routes of the Valley, including Nagdhunga, Araniko Highway, and Tokha section, among others, have resumed regular operation. Vehicles that had been halted due to landslides have also started moving again, SP Subedi added.
With the rain stopping, crowds have started to appear again in the market areas of Kathmandu. The number of people purchasing daily necessities and consumer goods has increased. Traders from business hubs such as Ason, Indrachok, New Road, Old Baneshwor, and Gongabu have started witnessing gradual rise in customer presence.
