By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 29: The government has approved new road alignment running parallel to the existing highway from Mungling to Aanbukhaireni across the Marsyangdi River via Gorkha, along the Mungling–Pokhara section of the Prithvi Highway.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Singha Durbar on Sunday afternoon decided that the proposed road will have a width of 15 metres on each side from the centre of the road.
Speaking to the journalists after the Cabinet meeting, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, the construction of an alternative road that will run from Mungling Bazaar along the Trishuli River towards Gorkha, stretch across the left bank of the Marsyangdi River, and extend up to the Marsyangdi hydropower station.
The Cabinet meeting also granted approval to Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, to represent Nepal at the 8th International Solar Alliance (ISA) assembly scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India, from October 27 to 30. The Assembly is schedule to discuss accelerating solar energy adoption and deepening international cooperation on the issue. Prior to this, the 8th Annual Meeting of the Exploration of Contractors for the International Seabed Authority (ISA) was also held in India, concluding in Goa on September 20, 2025
In another major decision, the government announced a series of measures to ensure effective treatment and relief for those injured during the Gen Z protests of September 8 and 9. The Ministry of Home Affairs will distribute identity cards to victims to facilitate access to medical services.
The Ministry of Health and Population has been tasked with designating hospitals for continued treatment, where special ‘Gen Z Clinics’ will be operated, according to Minister Kharel, who is also the government spokesperson.
The government further decided to provide free transportation for patients seeking follow-up care, establish a hotline service, and appoint designated contact persons whose details will be made public for easier coordination. A technical committee will be formed immediately to categorise the injured, ensuring that relief and support are distributed based on the severity of injuries, according to Minister Kharel.
Further, the government has appointed Ajaya Bhadra Khanal as chief advisor to Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Govinda Narayan Timilsina as public relation advisor, according to Minister Kharel.
