By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 28: The 79th anniversary of Paropakar Sanstha, Nepal’s oldest philanthropic social organisation, was celebrated on Friday at Paropakar Higher Secondary School in Bhimsensthan.
The event was held under the chairmanship of educationist Hitkarveer Singh Kansakar, who is also featured in a book, 'Samajsewa ka Shikhar Purush Dayabeer Singh Kansakar,' (The Eminent Social Worker Daya Bir Singh Kansakar), authored by Professor Hariprasad Parajuli. Former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal unveiled the book.
Chief guest Lal expressed his joy at returning to the same school where he began his career as a mathematics teacher in 1973 (2030 BS), now ten years after he retired from the judiciary.
During the event, Prof. Parajuli, the author and Gopal Krishna Manandhar, who supported the publication of the book, were honoured.
Dr. Dambar Bahadur Nepali, general secretary of the organistion, recalled that he had topped the SLC board exams, inspired by founder Kansakar’s lesson to become capable in building the nation.
Treasurer Uttam Lal Joshi, while presenting the financial report, noted that the organisation, has continued its activities independently despite a lack of consistent financial support from the government.
Sharad Sharma, founder of the Child Development Society and former member-secretary of the Social Welfare Council, emphasised the need to establish a significant award in the name of the patriotic figure. The Paropakar Sanstha was established in 1947 (2004 BS) during a cholera epidemic, amidst the Rana rule.
Nepal Bhasa folk poet Rajbhai Jakham recited a poem titled “Rastrasewi Daya Bir Singh Kansakar” (National Hero Dayabeer Singh Kansakar) during the event.
Chairperson Hitkarveer Singh Kansakar stated that Paropakar Sanstha and Daya Bir Singh Kansakar have become synonymous. He expressed hope that with the rise of the “Gen Z Movement,” corruption would be eradicated and justice would prevail.
