By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 28: The share market has suffered a double-digit fall on Sunday after eight consecutive days of gains.
On Sunday, the first trading day of the week, the benchmark of stock market index, NEPSE, declined by 18.44 points and closed at 2,964.20 points.
In the early trading hours, the NEPSE rose to 3,013.17 points, but then started to decline. The NEPSE had been rising continuously since July 15.
The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies decreased by 3.26 points to close at 513.87 points. Although the NEPSE index has decreased, the turnover increased today.
A total of 58,653,762 shares worth Rs. 26.57 billion of 323 companies were bought and sold in 203,658 transactions today. On Thursday last week, about 34,824,472 shares worth Rs. 18.13 billion had been sold.
The sub-indices of banking, hotels and tourism, others, hydropower, non-life insurance, finance life insurance and investment group deceased while the sub-indices of development bank, manufacturing and processing, trading, microfinance and mutual fund increased.
Sub-index of the life insurance group saw the highest fall of 195.23 points followed by the hotels and tourism and non-life insurance whose indices decreased by 133.23 points and 90.93 points respectively.
Similarly, sub-index of finance group decreased by 53.27 points, hydropower by 43.22 points, others by 23.62 points, banking by 11.13 points and investment by 2.03 points.
However, the sub-index of manufacturing and processing group rose by 84.77 points, development bank by 77.64 points, trading by 61.74 points, microfinance by 0.37 points and mutual fund by 0.08 points.
The share price of 220 companies decreased while the share price of 94 companies increased in today’s transaction.
Share price of Narayani Development Bank decreased by 6.34 per cent while the share prices of NIC Asia Debenture 2085/86 by 5.2 per cent and Rapti Hydro and General Construction by 4.99 per cent.
However, share prices of Samata Gharelu Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Trade Tower increased by 10 per cent each. Similarly, share price of Sanvi Energy increased by 9.98 per cent and Lumbini Bikas Bank by 8.47 per cent.
