By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 14: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a significant upswing on Sunday, with the benchmark index surging by 29 points. The index reached 2,760.80 points on Sunday.
The double-digit growth came just a day after Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) unveiled its new monetary policy, which included key measures aimed at revitalising the capital market.
The standout highlight of the policy was the decision to raise the personal share margin loan limit from Rs. 150 million to Rs. 250 million. This move is widely seen as an effort to inject liquidity into the stock market and bolster investor confidence.
The NRB unveiled the monetary policy for the upcoming fiscal year on Friday. The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies increased by 9.16 points to close at 481.19 points.
With the increment of NEPSE index, the daily turnover has also increased on Sunday. A total of 32,592,030 shares worth Rs. 11.41 billion of 311 companies were sold in 105,415 transactions today.
On Thursday last week, a total of 20,118,846 shares worth Rs. 9.50 billion had been bought and sold.
The sub-indices of banking, hotels and tourism, development bank, manufacturing and processing, finance, microfinance, life insurance and mutual fund group increased while the sub-indices of others, hydropower, non-life insurance, trading and investment group decreased in today’s transaction.
Sub-index of the microfinance group saw the highest growth of 173.22 points followed by the development bank and banking group whose indices increased by 83.38 points and 49.09 points respectively. Similarly, sub-index of hotels and tourism group increased by 33.34 points, manufacturing and processing by 23.01 points, finance by 46.74 points, life insurance by 3.57 points and mutual fund by 0.21 points.
However, sub-index of others group decreased by 6.48 points, hydropower by 29.62 points, non-life insurance by 43.04 points, trading by 10.99 points and investment by 0.09 points. Share prices of NIC Asia Bank and Khanikhola Hydropower increased by 9.99 per cent each.
Similarly, the share price of Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta Bittya Sanstha increased by 9.61 points, NESDO Sambridha Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 7.30 per cent and Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 6.50 per cent.
However, the share price of Himalayan Hydropower decreased by 9.93 per cent, Rapti Hydro and General Construction by 7.34 per cent and Bhagawati Hydropower Development Company by 6.93 per cent.
