By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 23: The well-known musical duo from Darjeeling, Badri and Durga Kharel, are set to perform in the upcoming edition of Paleti, a musical event organised on the last Friday of every English month at Nepalaya’s r-sala.
For this month’s programme, the duo will present their famous songs as well as newly composed tunes based on fresh lyrics by lyricist Dinesh Adhikari.
These songs will be sung with the voice of Paleti’s new vocal artist, Abhigya Ghimire. Badri and Durga are prominent names not just in Darjeeling’s Nepali music scene but also among Nepali-speaking audience worldwide.
One of their most cherished creations is ‘Bolau Bhane Timilai Baat Laagne Dar’.
Another of their popular compositions is Subhakamana Khali sung by Darjeeling’s vocal artist Dawa Gyelmo.
Durga Kharel also performed the famous song ‘Sarangi Ko Taarle Mero Manko Geet Gauchha’ live during the staging of Man Bahadur Mukhia’s play ‘Ani Deurali Runchha’ in Darjeeling.
However, it was singer Kumar Subba who got the chance to record the song at Radio Nepal, which helped propel him to popularity in the Nepali music scene.
Regarding this edition of Paleti, programme coordinator Abhas said, “Paleti aims to inspire veteran musicians to create new works.”
Durga Kharel, who first appeared in Paleti in 2008, said, “After a long interval, it feels wonderful to return to the field of music. Just when I was beginning to wonder if I was fading from the music world, this opportunity has rekindled my confidence in my musical journey.”
Badri Kharel, who also debuted in Paleti in 2008, said, “The first time we came to Paleti, we didn’t know much about the programme. Now, after a long time, we are back again.”
