By Our Correnspondent,Salyan, June 8: Fortified flour has been provided to 659 mothers in Siddha Kumakh Municipality, Salyan, under the 'Chairman Nutrition Programme' to combat malnutrition among pregnant women, postpartum mothers and children.

Siddha Kumakh Municipality Chairman Bharat Giri said that fortified flour has been distributed to 178 mothers from Ward No. 1, 111 mothers from Ward No. 2, and 126 mothers from Ward No. 3. Similarly, 88 mothers from Ward No. 4 and 156 mothers from Ward No. 5 have also received the flour.

The programme has been implemented to improve the overall health of mothers and small children who have been suffering from malnutrition due to a lack of an adequate nutritious diet. Chief Administrative Officer Dilli Khadka mentioned that such programmes have been initiated to mitigate the problem of malnutrition among children, pregnant women and postpartum mothers in the municipality.

The flour is enriched with vital nutrients, ensuring better health benefits. The local authorities play a significant role in improving overall nutrition, with a particular emphasis on the well-being of mothers and children, according to nutrition expert Niraj KC.

According to him, there are still malnourished children in the district, so the distribution of fortified flour will be effective in reducing malnutrition. Along with the lack of food, the lack of knowledge regarding a balanced diet has led to malnutrition among children, he said.

Rekha Rana from Siddha Kumakh Rural Municipality-1 expressed her happiness upon receiving nutritious flour and information regarding wholesome nutrition. She mentioned that health problems arise primarily due to a lack of knowledge.
