Madale- Maruni dance performed to welcome guests in Annapurna

By Our Correspondent,Beni, June 3: Traditional Madale-Maruni dance was performed to welcome guests in Bensi village in Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, on Monday.

The dance groups from within the municipality showcased this cultural dance.

On the third day of the Diamond Jubilee Festival, held to mark the 75th anniversary of the Annapurna expedition, the Magar community presented the Madale-Maruni dance as part of their indigenous cultural heritage to welcome trekkers, tourists and guests.

Chairperson of the rural municipality, Bharat Kumar Pun, said that the municipality organised the ancestral dance performance to preserve traditional culture and to honour the guests attending the festival.

Chairperson Pun further added that the Madale-Maruni dance will also be performed tomorrow, on June 3, during the visit of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

 According to Shyam Purja, coordinator of the ancestral dance and Ward Member of Ward No. 4, local groups from seven different wards of the municipality participated in the event. Over 150 artists took part in the performance, including dancers, singers and instrumentalists.

Young men dressed in traditional Magar attire performed the Maruni-Madale dance, while elderly men and women supported them by singing traditional songs.

The rural municipality stated that the event was organised during the Annapurna Diamond Jubilee Festival with the aim of preserving cultural heritage, encouraging local artists, and raising awareness about indigenous arts and culture.

 Under the leadership of Annapurna Rural Municipality, the Diamond Jubilee Festival is being celebrated for the first time in the Annapurna expedition area, from May 31 to June 5, with a variety of programmes.
