By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 2: President Ramchandra Paudel is scheduled to unveil the Government's Policy and Programmes for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2025/26 at the joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday. The joint session of the House of Representatives and National Assembly will begin at 3:00 pm at the Parliament Building, New Baneshwor.
The Parliament Secretariat said that preparations for the joint session completed.
Earlier on Wednesday, a Cabinet meeting endorsed the policy and programme. Before that, the ruling coalition parties suggested the government the new policy and programmes should make the national economy vibrant with a big reform. In a meeting held at the official residence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Baluwatar, the leaders of the ruling parties also suggested key issues to be included in the new policy document.
The Federal Parliament has invited Chief Justice, heads of constitutional bodies, high government officials, heads or representatives of diplomatic missions in Kathmandu and private sector institutions for Friday's session.
The policy and programmes to be presented by President Paudel are the philosophical guidelines for the making of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
As per the feedback provided to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) by the National Planning Commission (NPC) a couple of weeks ago, the new policy and programmes will focus on increasing fiscal space for the country.
According to the NPC, programmes that foster synergy and contribute to sustainability during implementation while generating minimal or no trade-offs, should be prioritised in the policy document and budget allocation.
Likewise, priority would be given to budget proposals for multi-year projects and programmes that have created liabilities in the current fiscal year and are expected to be completed by the next year.
Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel had said earlier that Policy and Programmes and budget of the next fiscal year would be focused on the creation of strong national economy backed by infrastructure and industrial development.
