Clean drinking water will become practical right: Minister Yadav

Kathmandu, May 1: Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has said clean drinking water will no longer be a pipedream for the common Nepali citizen but a practical right.

Addressing the inaugural programme of 'Nangedanda Extensive Pumping Water Supply Project' at Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-5 and 6 in Sindhuli today, he said the government has a long-term policy to make drinking water service accessible from remote villages to cities across the country under the 'Clean Water, Healthy Life' campaign.

Minister Yadav said that the government was moving ahead keeping the expectations of the citizens first in every step of development and as an example of active cooperation of the federal government, local bodies and the people, the Nangedanda Water Supply Project of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhuli has become successful.

Director General of the Department of Drinking Water and Sewerage Management, Engineer Ram Kumar Shrestha, said the agreement for the construction of the project was signed on June 23, 2022 and as per the preliminary plan its completion deadline is July 13, 2025.

"The final cost has reached Rs 379.49 million after the progress of the works and necessary modifications," he said, adding that the project is expected to have a positive impact on the health, sanitation and prosperity in the region.

A total of 2,535 households will be directly benefited under the Nangedanda project in Sunkoshi and the target is to provide clean and safe drinking water to every household, said Chief Engineer of the Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Management Project, Herakaji Maharjan. (RSS)
