Nepali Ambassador to Spain presents credentials to UN Tourism SG

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, April 29: Ambassador of Nepal to the Kingdom of Spain, Shanil Nepal, presented his credentials to the Secretary-General (SG) of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), Zurab Pololikashvili, during a ceremony held at the UN Tourism Headquarters in Madrid.

Following the presentation, Ambassador Nepal held on Monday a cordial meeting with Secretary-General Pololikashvili, during which he conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal. Ambassador Nepal extended an invitation to the Secretary-General to visit Nepal at a convenient time, according to a press release issued today by the Embassy of Nepal in Spain.

Secretary-General Pololikashvili congratulated Nepal on achieving a milestone in welcoming a record number of international tourists in 2024, marking a full recovery to pre-pandemic levels. He lauded Nepal’s efforts in revitalizing its tourism sector and its contributions to global tourism.

Ambassador Nepal highlighted Nepal's strategic emphasis on diversifying its tourism offerings, including the promotion of spiritual and cultural heritage, as well as the country's rich biodiversity. In this context, he proposed Nepal as a potential venue for future high-level summits and conferences organized by UN Tourism. The Secretary-General welcomed the suggestion and expressed interest in exploring this further.

The two dignitaries also exchanged views on expanding collaboration between the Embassy of Nepal and UN Tourism, with Secretary-General Pololikashvili underscoring the importance of sustained and effective communication to enhance partnership and coordination in various initiatives related to Nepal, read the press release.

The ceremony was attended by officials from UN Tourism and the Embassy of Nepal.
