Kathmandu, April 23: Today is the
World Copyright Day.
In 1995, the General Assembly of
the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
took the initiative to celebrate this day on April 23.
The purpose of this day is to pay
respect to books and writers and encourage the culture of reading.
It is expected to raise awareness
about legal information and copyright needed for intellectual property
protection.
The day also has historical
significance in world literature. It was on this date that world-renowned
writers William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega passed away. (RSS)
