Kathmandu, April 20: Daily life in the Kathmandu Valley has been affected today due to the traffic congestion caused by two separate protests — one by the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers (CNT) and the other by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
The protests have primarily
affected office-goers, who faced significant challenges in reaching their
workplaces due to diversions in traffic routes. The CNT's protest began at 9:00
am, while the RPP's demonstration started at 12:00 noon. Both protests centered
on Maitighar to New Baneshwor areas, leading to alterations in traffic flow,
according to Deepak Giri, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police
Office.
These changes in the traffic routes
have caused major congestion on the diverted roads, creating severe
inconvenience for commuters. Vehicular movement has been restricted around
Maitighar, Babarmahal, and New Baneshwor following the RPP's announcement to
focus its protest near the Bijuli Bazar Bridge, a prohibited area for the demonstration.
A significant number of security
personnel have been deployed to maintain order, with the area being fenced off
to prevent any untoward incidents.
Teachers from across the country
have been gathering in the capital for the past 19 days to participate in the
ongoing demonstrations. The RPP protest has further complicated traffic
management in the city.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has
expressed serious concern over the RPP's decision to breach the restricted zone
and has issued a warning against those violating the law and spreading disorder
in society. (RSS)
