Political instability causing good governance in short supply: Speaker Ghimire

blog

Kathmandu, April 19: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said good governance has not been established in the country due to political instability.

At the 'National Governance Summit-2025' organized by the Good Governance Protection Forum here today, he pointed out the need of commitment among political leaders and people's representative to ensure good governance and carry out activities being accountable towards the nation and people.

Stressing the need of honesty and willpower among political leaders to maintain good governance, Speaker Ghimire argued that good governance would not be established until political leadership determinate towards correcting behaviour. Mere changes of governance and election system are not enough for it, Ghimire argued.

Similarly, President of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the federal parliament, Ram Hari Khatiwada, laid emphasis that leaders should focus their attention for the nation to win people's trust that helps build good governance.

"The leaders must pay heed to address people's dissatisfaction," he added.

Likewise, former Chief Election Officer Bhoj Raj Pokharel mentioned that good governance would be limited to slogan until political parties firmly stood in favour of right conduct.

"The government should firmly stand for the promotion of fair administration and to control corruption. Structures like parliament and judiciary—the pillars of good governance— should also be effective for it.

Discussion would be held with politicians and policy makers on the issues as 'enhancing citizen participation and inclusive governance', 'transforming public service delivery through innovation and efficiency', and 'sustainable development and policy reforms' in the event. (RSS)
