Kathmandu, Apr.15: Temporary and contract employees working in government agencies will now be included in the Social Security Fund (SSF).

According to the Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security Dandu Raj Ghimire, a notice to this effect got published in the Gazette on the day of the New Year, 2082.

He said that those working in corporations, boards, authority, and institutes fully or partially owned by the Government of Nepal, the provincial government, or the local level will be eligible to participate in the scheme.

Arrangements have been made to allow employees working in such bodies, who are listed as contributors to the Social Security Fund, to participate in the scheme by considering at least 60 percent of their salary as the basic salary.

Of this, 20 percent will have to be contributed by the employer and 11 percent by the contributor.

The decision was made in accordance with the Social Security Act, 2074 (2017) and the Social Security Schemes Operational Directives, 2075 (2018), according to a notice published in the Gazette.

Although the decision was made on March 28, it came into effect with the publication of a notice in the gazette on the day of the New Year.

This will provide relief to temporary and salaried (wage workers) employees working in government agencies.
