After the hailstorm that fell last Wednesday night damaged the ripening wheat crop in Wards 1, 2 and 7 of Triveni Municipality, farmers are worried about what they will eat during the rainy season.
Bir Bahadur BK, ward chairman of Triveni Municipality-2, said that the hailstorm that fell along with the incessant rain on Wednesday night damaged the wheat crop of most farmers here.
He said, “The most damage has occurred in Triveni Municipality-1 and 2. The hailstorm has caused huge damage to the wheat crop in Bedugada, Danda Gada, Dalit settlements.”
Ward chairman BK said that they are very worried at this time after the wheat planted in the winter season was destroyed by the hailstorm.
The hailstorm that hit on Wednesday night has caused great damage in various places in Triveni. The farmers here are worried after the hailstorm damaged the winter crops that the farmers planted in the winter.
The wheat crop was planted in the winter to feed their families during the rainy season. Now that the hailstorm has destroyed everything, the locals are worried about what to eat during the rainy season, he said.
Along with the wheat crop, the hailstorm has also caused huge damage to the vegetables, including onions, potatoes, garlic and coriander.
The hailstorm has not only damaged the wheat crop but also caused huge damage to the vegetable and fruit crops of the farmers here, said Juddha Bahadur Ayadi, ward chairman of Triveni Municipality-7.
He said, “The police and people’s representatives are currently monitoring the fields to determine where and how much damage has been caused by the hailstorm.”
Ayadi said that the actual extent of the damage will be known only after reaching each place and acquiring all the details.
It has been reported that hailstorm has damaged wheat crops in Ward Nos. 1, 2 and 7 of Triveni Municipality, said Assistant Inspector of Toli Police Post Madan Bista.
He said that that they are planning to go to the farmers’ fields Friday to collect the data of losses caused by hailstorm and rains.
