Russian ambassador calls on Energy Minister

Kathmandu, April 2: Russia's ambassador to Nepal, Aleksei Novikov today paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka.     

During the meeting held at the Minister's office in Singha Durbar, matters relating to mutual interests and cooperation were discussed.     

Acknowledging the support and cooperation of the Russian government to the human resources development in Nepal, the Minister recalled the construction of the Panauti Hydropower Project with financial assistance from the then-Soviet government.     

Apprising the ambassador of the goal of the Nepal government to generate 28,500 megawatts of power by 2035, the Minister expected cooperation from the Russian government towards that end.     

He called, through the ambassador, on the Russian companies to invest in Nepal's transmission line, energy storage, smart greed and green energy sectors.     

In response, the ambassador said the business communities in Russia are interested in expanding investment in Nepal's energy and hydropower sectors.     

He also invited the Minister to the Nevsky International Ecological Congress scheduled to be held in Russia next month, the St Petersburg International Forum (to be held in June this year), there and Russian Energy Week in October. (RSS)
