Nepal to provide relief aid to Myanmar

Kathmandu, Apr.1: The Nepal government will send food and other relief materials to the victims of the recent earthquake in Myanmar. 

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday made a decision to provide aid assistance to Myanmar.

Aid materials such as noodles, biscuits, medicines, and blankets will be sent to Myanmar for immediate assistance, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a meeting held at the ministry on Monday, Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba also called on Nepal's private sector organizations to provide aid materials.

Foreign Minsiter Deuba said that the Government of Nepal will send immediate humanitarian aid and relief materials to provide immediate assistance to the distressed people of Myanmar.

Chandra Prasad Dhakal is the President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of. Commerce & Industry (FNCCI) President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) Rajesh Kumar Agrawal and others, presnet in the meeting informed that the private sector would provide assistance materials institutionally.

In the meeting, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi , and  Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya said that the relief materials would be collected and sent to Myanmar as soon as possible through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

 More than 2,000 people in Myanmar have been killed following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit Myanmar and affected areas as far as Thailand and China on March 28.
