Kathmandu, March 27: The Newa community leaders have made it clear that they are in favor of federalism, republicanism, secularism, proportional representation and inclusive democracy. Activities demanding the abolition of federalism and restoration of monarchy and Hindu nation state are unacceptable.
Leaders of the Newa community issued a statement here Thursday, stating that they are in favor of republicanism. They have stated that the old feudal monarchy erased the diversity of the country and oppressed the Newa and other communities.
“Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multilingual, multicultural and multi-religious country. It is well known that the old feudal and autocratic system of monarchy has erased this diversity of the country and oppressed the Newa and other communities linguistically, socially, culturally and economically,” the statement signed by Malla K. Sundar, Hitkar Bir Singh Kansakar and Prof. Dr Nareshman Bajracharya says.
On the occasion, the leaders of the Newa community said they found recently that reactionary forces are being mobilized to demand the abolition of federalism, the restoration of the monarchy and the restoration of a Hindu nation state. They are playing with the disenchantment among the people.
The Newa community has also requested the government and political parties to control such activities and address the discontent of the Newa people, including the general public, by fulfilling the national resolve of federalism, secularism, a democratic republic and building an inclusive society.(RSS)
