By Gyanu Pangeni, Madhyabindu, Mar.26: The green fields of Asparagus racemosus (kurilo) plants planted by farmer Padma Bahadur Moktan at the Brahmasthan in Madhyabindu Municipality-3 of Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat-sustapur) are pleasing to the eyes.
Moktan has been cultivating Asparagus here for the past three years. It is spread out over an area of five bighas (acres) with an investment of Rs 2.5 million. It was spent on buying seedlings of Asparagus, fertilizers, and human manpower.
Asparagus has started bearing fruit, rushing Moktan to pick, pack and send it to the market.
Moktan has hoped to get a market within the district, which will fulfill his objective.
He said that consuming Asparagus regularly is very beneficial for health as it has medicinal properties that are considered good for health and does not require the use of many pesticides.
Moktan said, "Asparagus is a bit more expensive than other vegetables but has great benefits. We eat boiled chicken meat but don't buy Asparagus, the price of boiled chicken and Asparagus is the same. But we buy meat and don't buy Asparagus. We are not used to that habit."
