Kathmandu, March 23: Members of the National Assembly (NA) have demanded an investigation into the report about the forced demolition of a Dalit in Siraha, citing for site clearance to organise Mahayagya, a religious event.
Ghanashyam Rijal said, "This is a heinous act of caste-based discrimination. Hold all those responsible for the case accountable. This is an insult to around six million Dalit population in the country. This act that had occurred in Aurahi Rural Municipality-5 in Siraha is against the Constitution and the laws."
He also sought the guarantee of security to 'survivors'.
Supporting Rijal, Bishnu Devi Pudasaini and Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma said, "It is a crime to bulldoze the house of a Dalit in the name of Mahayagya." He urged the government to relieve the rural municipality chair of his post promptly and arrest the accused including the so-called 'Bajarangi Baba' (saint), the priest assigned to conduct the Mahayagya (religious programme).
Manrupa Sharma alerted the House to a case involving the murder of 19-year-old Mina Pariyar of Beni Municipality in Myagdi, seeking prosecution on it.
Rukmini Koirala advocated for bringing substantive action plans to prevent the citizens from catching non-communicable diseases.
Renu Chand questioned the government about the status of the Bill relating to the Sahid Dasharath Chand Health Science University Bill 2080 BS.
Bishnu Kumari Sapkota urged the government to not create unnecessary troubles for sugarcane farmers of Ruru in Gulmi while Krishna Bahadur Rokaya called for constructing a river above the Bheri river along the border of Madela of Jajarkot and Chaurjahari of Rukum West.
Shree Krishna Prasad Adhikari objected to the statement by Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka from the parliament that load-shedding would resume.
