'Change appointment process in anti-graft body'

blog

Damauli (Tanahun), March 22: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), Bisho Prakash Sharma has stressed the need to change appointment process in the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

At a regional conference organized by the NC Tanahun Constituency-2 at Dulegaunda today, he advocated for change as there is a risk that the appointment process may be influenced by politics due to the current legal system.

Sharma said, "Now let us appoint impartial people having experience of over 20 years in the field of law and administration through open competition".

The general-secretary shared, "I have been raising this issue in the parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee. I do believe it will come to the public debate gradually. People who come through open competition can work in a more fair and transparent manner".

He clarified that the recent ordinance brought by the government was meant to maintain good governance.

On a different note, he said the NC's general convention would be held before 2084 BS. "The party's general convention has to be held before the general election to take place in 2084", he mentioned.

According to him, the NC statute and the country's Constitution have clearly stated that the general convention should be held within five years, so the time can be extended only for a maximum of six months.(RSS)
