Kathmandu, March 20: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, requesting the latter for his diplomatic efforts for the safe release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who is believed to have been held hostage by Palestinian extremist group Hamas.

PM Oli made such request this afternoon over a telephone call to the Turkish President.

In response, the Turkish President said that he would take the issue seriously and would make efforts for Bipin's release and urged PM Oli to convey this message to Bipin's family and the Nepali society, according to the Prime Minister's Secretariat.

During the telephone call, the Turkish President reminded PM Oli of invitation extended to him to take part in a diplomatic conference being held in Turkey in April later this year.

On the occasion, the issues of economic and scientific cooperation as well as expansion of mutual ties were discussed.

Earlier on March 12, Prime Minister Oli had called on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil and urged him to take necessary steps for the release of Joshi, who has been held hostage by Hamas since the attack on Israel. (RSS)
