Kathmandu, Mar. 3: The World Hearing Day was celebrated with the slogan “Change the mindset: Make ear and hearing care accessible to all” across the country on Monday.
The
World Health Organization (WHO) had celebrated the World Hearing Day for the
first time on 3 March, 2007.
Its
main objective is to spread awareness about the prevention of hearing loss and
deafness worldwide as well as the promotion of ear and hearing health services.
On
the occasion of the Day, President of Speech and Hearing Association of Nepal
Prabha Dawadi and General Secretary Anil Kumar Adhikari said that all
Nepali people, policymakers, health workers and stakeholders should be serious about
the importance of hearing care.
Issuing
a joint press release on Sunday, Dawadi and Adhikari called for easy access to
hearing services.
According
to the press statement, since millions of people in the country suffer from ear
and hearing problems, the problem of hearing loss can be avoided if proper
examination, prevention and treatment are done on time.
The
association also urges all to not take ear and hearing problems lightly and get
them tested and treated on time.
To
prevent and treat hearing problems, it is necessary to avoid loud noise, keep
the ears clean, and consult a health professional, and to make hearing aids,
cochlear implants.
Similarly,
other treatment methods should be easily accessible, and to make necessary
policies to the government and related bodies so that all citizens can easily
access hearing services.
Since
there is a shortage of speech and hearing specialists, the association has
requested policymakers and stakeholders to take necessary initiatives in this
regard.
