By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb. 24: Executive Chairman of the Gorkhapatra Corporation Bishnu Prasad Subedi has vowed to bolster the digital presence of the media house.
Inaugurating a function organised this morning to mark the third digital day of the Corporation he highlighted the importance of digital platforms to enhance accessibility and the market of daily newspapers.
Chairman Subedi said, "Gorkhapatra carries a history of 124 years. It can be regarded as the school of journalism as well. digitalization of the overall system and digital standing is our future."
He stressed on the importance of online platforms saying, "We can not reach everyone through newspaper physically but we can deliver it to all online therefore the online edition must be kept in priority."
He viewed becoming a journalist has become challenging because citizen journalism has become a big thing now. Its difficult to know who is a reader and who is a creator now.
He said, " We have a challenge to make manpower skilled, be swift and efficient technically."
General Manager of the Corporation Lal Bahadur Airi said that online platform is the timely response to the changing context.
He said, "We do not any have option than to inculcate online edition. We are not in the position to ignore it. We need to move along with it ."
Competition in journalism has become intense and expanse due to the digital age and we have to move along keeping this in mind so that we can strengthened our online platform.
He said, "We need to maintain our legacy of being credible and authentic news source."
GM Airi said, "We need to expand our asset, that is our reliability, and go aggressively in the market. On top of it, we have our human resources, correspondent nationwide. If we can utilise it and manage our content, then we can create our own niche in market."
Editor in chief of the Gorkhapatra daily Shiv Kumar Bhattarai said that online is the choice for new generation.
It is a medium through which our newspaper can reach worldwide, he said.
Acting editor in chief of The Rising Nepal, Bhimsen Thapaliya, said that there is a long history of Gorkhapatra going digitally. "We entered digital age some 28 years ago, on 23 February 1997, but we are celebrating it for third time. In fact it should be 29th anniversary now."
He said, "Our online achievements need to be stored properly in an integrated archive system."
Digital Coordinator of the Gorkhapatra Corporation, Narad Muni Gautam, and coordinator of the risingnepaldaily.com, Nanda Lal Tiwari, also spoke highlighting the importance of online editions.
They said that there are numerous challenges in online platforms and pledged to exercise journalism with honesty and truthfulness.
