Nepali students in India's Bhubaneswar forced to vacate hostel after B-Tech girl's death

By TRN Online, Feb 17 (Times Now): A little after a third-year BTech student of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, a private engineering college, died allegedly by suicide in her hostel, all enrolled students from Nepal have been reportedly sent back to their homes.

The deceased was identified as Prakriti Lamsal from Nepal. "A Nepali student studying in the third year of B-Tech committed suicide in the hostel yesterday. It is suspected that the student was in a love affair with another student studying at KIIT. It is suspected that the student may have committed suicide due to some reason," PTI quoted KIIT.

The institute also claimed that there was mild tension among the Nepali students studying at KIIT over the girl's death. Due to this, the university decided to send these international students back home. Keeping in view the situation, the Nepal students have been sent to their respective homes. The situation presently remained calm," the KIIT said.

Nepal students who were studying at the university have alleged that they were unable to gather information from the university officials about the girl's demise. Due to this, the group of students launched a protest on the campus.

"..We were pushed out of the hostel today. A girl from Nepal was found dead yesterday. We went to International Office to find out more details about this but we could not find anything. We were there overnight, sitting on a dharna. We were sent back to the hostel from there. We were finally told to pack up and leave within an hour. We have nothing with us. We don't know how we will go. We have not even had food...We are trying to get a ticket," Anil Prasad Yadav from Nepal, a student at KIIT was quoted by ANI.

Meanwhile, two platoons (1 platoon comprise 30 personnel) of police force police force were deployed to maintain law and order situation in the campus.
