By Our Correspondent,Urlabari, Feb. 10: Construction of the Kanepokhari Hospital being built in Kanepokhari-4 in Morang district has reached its final stage.
However, the hospital, upgraded to a 15-bed hospital from the then Bayarban Health Post, is facing a critical shortage of medical equipment. The hospital was built by Kathmandu K.N. KD JV at a cost of Rs. 85 million. Now the upgraded hospital requires medical instruments worth Rs. 500 million.
Administration chief of the hospital, Rohindra Rajbhandari stated, “A tender was recently called to purchase a modern X-ray machine for the hospital which is providing thyroid examinations services. While the hospital has been built, it currently lacks the necessary tools for operation.” He added, “Efforts are underway with the provincial and federal governments to procure the required instruments.”
The chairperson of the Kanepokhari Rural Municipality, Rajmati Ingnam, said, “The tender process for some equipment has been completed, while for others, we have sought assistance from the provincial and federal governments. Every year, additional medical equipment will be installed through internal funding and government support.”
Despite these challenges, the hospital continues to treat around 300 patients daily. To ensure uninterrupted healthcare services, the municipality has appointed two medical staff members paying from its own resources.
“The hospital is currently providing treatment in a cramped health post building. We are making every effort to acquire the necessary equipment to ensure the hospital functions smoothly,” said Rajbhandari.
