Construction to begin on 10-kilometre Arkhet-Habadanda road section in Gorkha

By Our Correspondent,Sulikot, Gorkha, Jan. 19: A budget of Rs. 600 million has been secured for the blacktopping of the Benighat-Arughat-Larke road section under the road connecting Gorkha to China.

The Finance Ministry gave a multi-year contract agreement for the blacktopping and upgrading of the 10-kilometre road from Arkhet to Habadanda, informed Amindra Khadka, Chief of the Gorkha Road Planning Office, Gorkha.

According to him, after the budget was secured from the Finance Ministry, the contract would be issued in the next few days and an agreement will be reached by April. 

The government has allocated a total budget of Rs 70 million this fiscal year for the road section. 

The Chairman of Chumanubri Rural Municipality of the district had staged a sit-in at the Finance Ministry demanding an increase in the budget, saying that the budget was less than the previously allocated budget.

The Finance Ministry recently allocated a budget of Rs 600 million for blacktopping the road. 

With the resources being assured, the road from Arkhet to Habadadan will be paved this fiscal year.

Nima Lama, the chairman of Chumanubri Rural Municipality, informed that four-wheeled vehicles had started construction on 97 kilometres of the total 154 kilometres from Benighat to Larkesam road section.

The Nepal Army's road construction task force stated that the road section is currently being divided into four sections. 

Blasting work is being done in Pangsinghbhir, Nyak Phedi, Rubinala and Pebabhir.

Chumanubri Rural Municipality informed that the road connecting Gorkha to China will greatly enhance the economy, trade, hydropower, tourism and religious sites.
