Nepal Police bags Jay Trophy title

Kathmandu, Jan 16: The Departmental team, Nepal Police Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Club to clinch the Jay Trophy men's elite cup cricket tournament title. 

The NPC defeated the TAC by 28 runs in the final held today at Narayani Cricket Ground in Birgunj. 

Chasing the target of 103 runs set by the NPC, the NAC was reduced to 74 runs in the second session of the third day, losing all wickets in 29.2 overs.

Imran Sheikh scored the highest 28 runs for the Army, Sompal Kami and Binod Bhandari scored 11 runs each. None other batsmen could reach double figures. 

Meanwhile, NPC's Sagar Dhakal took 6 wickets and Lalit Rajbanshi took 4 wickets. 

In the second innings, after NPC was bowled out for 139 runs, the NAC got a target of 139 runs for a win. Police had started the third day's match with 132 runs at the loss of nine wickets.

After adding seven more runs, before losing the last wicket, in the second innings, Police took a lead of 102 runs. 

Basir Ahmed dismissed Lalit as the last wicket. Sagar Dhakal remained not out for six runs. For Police, opener Kushal Bhurtel scored 45, Dilip Nath 34, Rashid Khan 18, opener Amit Shrestha scored 13 runs. 

NAC's Basir and Sahab Alam took five wickets each. In the first inning, the police scored 133 runs for the loss of 9 wickets and announced the end of the innings, while the army scored 170 runs. Bhim Sarki scored the highest 58 runs in the first innings for Army. Basir scored 40, Sompal scored 32 and captain Binod scored 14 runs. 

Sagar also took five wickets in the first innings for Police. Kushal Bhurtel took three wickets and Lalit and Gulshan Jha took one wicket each.

Earlier, the police, who lost the toss and were invited to bat, announced the end of the innings after losing nine wickets and scoring 133 runs. Opener Kushal scored the highest 51 runs for Police. Arjun Saud scored 28, Amit 20 and Rashid 10. NAC's Sahab Alam took seven wickets, Sompal and Basir Ahmed took one wicket each. (RSS)
