Hassle to drive in morning at Terai belts

 By Bomlal Giri, Nawalpur, Jan.15: Even though it is time for the sun to come up, many areas in Terai are still witnessing a thick fog. It has made it difficult to see 10 meters ahead causing problems of visibility to drivers. 

There is light traffic but vehicles are moving at slow speed at the Narayanghat – Butwal Road Section of the East-West Highway.

Ramesh Kumar Parajuli, the driver commuting through Birgunj to Bhairahawa, says that it is difficult to drive the bus as the visibility is very low due to the thick fog.

"As soon as you increase the speed, there is a risk of an accident due to visibility, so it is imperative to be careful and drive the vehicle at a slow speed,'' said Parajuli.

Chief of the District Traffic Police Office Janak Raj Banjara said that the highway is still under construction and the drivers have been driving carefully which has eliminated the risk of big accidents. 

Many districts in Terai including Nawalpur has been a lot of fog and cold waves in Terai districts including Nawalpur since December. 

The highway was completely blocked for one day and partially for two days on the southern section of the Narayanghat – Butwal Road section as the road got slippery owing to cold waves. 


 In the plains where the sun is shining at other times, you can hardly see the sun in the afternoon.

Most of the schools in Terai have remained closed their schools due to the cold wave and cold weather. 

Cold suffering has been added to the elderlies and children as the winter progresses. 

 Arrangements have been made to burn the fire in every chowk to keep away the cold.

Office, arrangements have been made to burn fire in 24 public places of the district on the initiative of the District Police. 

 Deputy Superintendent of Police JC Shah of the District Police Office said that arrangements have been made to light fires in 24 public places of 6 local levels of the district to keep warm.

Similarly, the local clubs have also arranged for firewood to light fire in different places.

 Chief District Officer Arun Pokhrel said that food and clothing were distributed to nearly 100 low-income families across the district on the initiative of the district administration office following cold waves and fog.
