Vehicles operating from alternative route after bridge collapse

blog

Triveni (Nawalparasi), Jan 11: Vehicles stranded at Dumkibas, Nawalpur in Nawalparasi East have started going to their respective destinations using alternative route following the breakage of a bridge over the local Binayi rivulet on the East-West Highway.

The bridge had broken on Friday evening and the vehicular traffic was completely halted through the bridge at Dumkibas of Binayi Triveni rural municipality.

Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi East, Arun Pokhrel, said that the vehicles stranded at the place have been allowed to operate from the optional route.

According to CDO Pokhrel, the bridge's repair is not immediately possible and the vehicles stranded at the place have been directed to use the alternative route until the construction of a diversion route.

He said arrangements have been made for the vehicles to use the inner road at Jyamire, Binayi Trivenu-2, that passes through Triveni Crusher and joins the Highway at Gumbachowk. This alternative route is around five kilometres detour.

The second alternative route from Jyamire Petrol Pump that passes via CG Chowk-Dandajor-Hongshi Gate and joins the Highway has been arranged for the big and heavy vehicles. It is around 18-kilometre detour.

The 246-metre-long bridge has been completely damaged due to the breakage. The bridge broke as a 60 tonnes capacity truck (NL 01 AH 5169) was crossing over it. The truck was carrying goods of Shivam Cement and had set out from Krishnanagar Customs. The trick is stuck in the middle of the broken bridge. (RSS)
